Family dinners.

Family time with your elders and cousins was special πŸ’—

Hello all,

How many of you remember the family dinners from a child?

Back as a small child, when we had family dinners, I would see cousins I have not seen since the year before.

Elders that would hug you so hard while giving you those juicy kisses on your cheek. and then realizing you still didn’t understand who they were from the 1st time you met them. So many people.

All of them seemed so tall back then that I had to tilt your head back to see their face. Yes, I was that small then. Now I am taller than them all.πŸ˜„

I recall when we were about to eat dinner, there was prayer. Prayer over the meal that my Grandmother laid out on the kitchen table. Looking extra special with the table cloth, silverware, and plates.

Saying grace over our food is a tradition that was done then, and I still do now. GOD is good, and blessed us with my Grandmother who was an excellent cook. As my Grand uncle said grace, every eye was closed, head bowed, and hands clasped.

We had our hands clasped, but in the picture, they are holding hands while praying.

Proverbs 15:17

β€œBetter is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.”

King James Version (KJV)

The meal took from early in the morning to prepare and was ready in the afternoon with our cousins and elders would arrive.

We all were catching up with our events from the last time we met.

Proverbs 22:6

I remember those graces that were told. They came from the Bible and it felt like I was in church again as the food was being blessed.

When the “Amen!” was said all you could hear was chewing. Some would some like “mmm-mmm!” Or you outdid yourself! Once they got their fill , they began to talk again. Laughing over good memories.

From eating good meal, the men dozed off in the living room. The women washed dishes, and we kids played.

I miss those family meals. We kids have all grown up now. And most of the elders are with the LORD GOD now. πŸ™πŸΎ

Peace and blessings ❀️

  1. This is an outstanding post; oh, the power and fellowship of those strong times; I was not even a Christian then, and our family was lapsed Catholic more or less, but even then, there was something special; yes, the prayers make it immensely more, but those family times were still golden to me.
